Beware of Cash for Clunkers Scams; Expert Available
** We are fielding requests for your own local interview as Carfax moves to protect consumers from unknowingly buying cars meant for scrap yards
Nearly 700,000 used cars were sent to be scrapped under the Cash for Clunkers program this summer. Though it is illegal to resell any car traded in as a Clunker, there is widespread concern that many will show up for sale around the country. So how can you know if the used car you’re buying was actually meant for the scrap yard?
Carfax, working with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), has added the vehicle identification number of every car accepted as a Clunker to its database. To help consumers protect themselves, Carfax now makes this information available for free at Carfax.com/Clunkers.
