People Who Eat Dried Fruit, Including Raisins, In General, Have A Better Overall Diet

In conclusion of a recent 5 year study, analysis of data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey found that people who ate 1/8 cup of dried fruit – like 2 tablespoons of California raisins – or more on a daily basis, had diets that were richer in nutrients, such as fiber, vitamin E, calcium, and potassium.

Registered Dietitian Elizabeth Ward says people who eat dried fruit like raisins are already making wise choices according to the data. The analysis showed that dried fruit consumers, as a whole, took in less solid fat, alcohol and added sugars. In addition, raisin eaters consumed more whole fruit, whole grains, and other healthy food groups. This reminds us that California raisins, and other dried fruits, are packed with nutrients and antioxidants. These healthy snacks are both fat and cholesterol free, as well as naturally low in sodium. People who regularly choose raisins as a healthy snack or as part of entrees and side dishes, are more likely to make other healthy choices in their way of eating, too.
