New Solar-Powered Central Air Conditioning System Makes it Easy to Save Energy and Money This Summer

According to the Department of Energy, the average retail price of electricity has increased nearly 40 percent in the last 10 years. That means higher utility bills for many homeowners. Now new green technologies are making it easier than ever for homeowners to save money while conserving energy.

More than half of a home’s energy costs come from heating and cooling the home. If consumers can use alternative energy sources like solar energy to help power appliances like an air conditioner, they can make a substantial dent in their overall utility bill.

The first-of-its-kind SunSource Home Energy System from Lennox harnesses solar energy from the sun to reduce the electricity consumed by an air conditioner or heat pump. It also uses that solar energy to operate other appliances and electronics in the home, when the heating and cooling system is not running. If the system generates more power than is used by the home, that power will be sent back to the utility company, which may entitle the homeowner to a credit on their utility bill.
