“MINDFUL COMMUNICATION MAY HELP PHYSICIANS BATTLE BURNOUT”

SUMMARY:
Burnout is common among physicians, with up to 60% of physicians reporting symptoms of emotional exhaustion, low sense of accomplishment and trouble connecting with patients. But a group of doctors who participated in a year-long course on “mindfulness” (defined as the ability to pay attention on purpose, in the present moment and without judgment) showed improvements in measures of personal well-being, including characteristics associated with enhanced patient-centered care.
