WEIGHT GAIN AND BODY COMPOSITION CHANGES MIDLIFE INTO OLDER AGE ASSOCIATED WITH INCREASED DIABETES RISK

SUMMARY:


The incidence of diabetes in the United States has doubled over the past 15 years. Being overweight and obese along with changing body composition are well-recognized risk factors for developing the disease in young and middle-aged adults but what about the risks for older Americans? A new study shows those 65 and older who become overweight or obese are also at an increased risk for developing diabetes.
